Wherethe business must have the skill and push of an able pro-duction man to instigate and produce the firms com-modities as its general manager in a sharp, open com-petition trade, then as a rule the financial chief is ofsecond importance to its success, for if the dollars arenot made in the shop, when fighting to establish a busi-ness, there can be few, if any, to joggle in the officeto pay bills or make improvements and it could soon goto the wall. After a firm of the above character has become thor-oughly established, having its production overseers andoperatives well organized, and the financial manager hasbecome well versed in all the processes and general needsof the production end of the business, he can then oftendispense with the pioneer production manager.
